If you had to pick five essential tech tools for working from home, what would you choose?

Consider all the “tech” around you; everything is fair game.

Do you have your list?

The question I keep asking myself is:

What would cause the most stress if I didn’t have access to it?

Mark Ellis and I recently discussed these five essential tools on his YouTube channel.

This article is a companion piece to the video.

1. Flow, hacking your brain

The first item is possibly the ultimate life hack.

It’s the concept of flow.

How often have you got ready to work, sat down at…

You can’t teach an old dog new tricks.

You may have heard this from a grandparent or your crazy uncle who always tries the latest get-rich-quick schemes.

It’s that classic idea that once you reach adulthood and are “mature” you are set in your ways — incapable of incorporating anything new into your already busy life.

I get it. I lived this philosophy for years, not because I believe it, but because it was easy. You get comfortable with who you are, and you don’t want to change. Who wants to do something outside the norm. …

It’s controversial, I know, but not every opinion matters.

We see it all the time today, people spewing all kinds of nonsense then hiding behind the statement. “Well, that’s my opinion.”

The thing is, to have a valid opinion, you have to have evidence to support your argument. You need to explain why you believe the way you do and back it up with solid logic you can define and prove.

I’m guilty of it as well, touting a belief as truth. …

Writing is... Joy, anger, frustration, flow. Writing to me is so many things I could write a paragraph alone on words to describe it and then another on each of those words.

Let me start by saying that writing and I haven’t always been friends. My earliest memories are of having to do homework that involved writing.

I’m hesitant to admit this, but Disney World is my favorite place to be. Yes, I know it’s not the most glamorous or picturesque place. In fact, it may be the opposite of those.

But I still find myself wanting to go there again and again. And after being on house arrest this last year and a half, I can’t wait to go back.

Is it the kid in all of us that comes out when we get there? Maybe.

Is it the lines and crowds I enjoy? Definitely not.

But what Disney does is subconscious. They provide a place…

I aspire to… not take my time for granted.

For so many years, I lived my life with apathy. Judging my success by how well I stacked up to my friends and neighbors.

I was looking to see how much money was in my bank account to gauge if I was “making it” or not.

One day I woke up, literally, and realized that my life wasn’t my own.

A single phone call turned that around and helped me see the fault in my thinking. It made me reevaluate the way I was living my life.

The joy of slamming a phone

In my role as…

Thanks for not supporting me when I made mistakes.

Thanks for offering me the minimum health care you could.

Thanks for not caring when my kids were sick.

Thanks for providing a workplace of hostility.

Thanks for not providing training for the people you expect to lead.

Thanks for hiring outside the company instead of promoting within.

Thanks for not taking women’s concerns seriously. Having to console coworkers is heartbreaking.

Thanks for being more concerned with how we dress than how we felt.

Thanks for not communicating with your employees. …
